For the past 20 years, Kristine Schaefer, principal of Loma Communications, has helped executives expertly convey their visions and strategies and win competitive advantage for their companies. She has developed highly successful communications and training programs for major corporations, start-ups and government agencies win accolades.
Collaborations and engagements
Kristine teams with global public relations firms, such as Edelman, Hill & Knowlton, Porter Novelli and Weber Shandwick; and with executive coaching firms. She has lectured on her areas of expertise at San Francisco State University’s New Media Center, the Software Developer’s Forum conference and Bulldog Reporter’s PR University.
A Global Perspective
In addition to coaching, Kristine brings a unique combination of marketing savvy, international expertise and language ability to Loma Communications. While earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Minnesota in International Relations, she immersed herself in Chinese culture by studying Mandarin at Nankai University in Tianjin, China. She enhanced her knowledge of Chinese, studying for a year at National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan.
Kristine launched her communications career in Taiwan in 1986, joining Taiwan-based Acer Inc., now the third largest PC manufacturer in the world. At Acer, she managed international marketing communications and executive communications at the company’s international trading division. Returning to the U.S. in 1987, she managed public relations for the company’s North American Sales and Marketing division.
A Decade of Trusted Partnerships
Kristine spent the next decade in public relations agency and consulting work with established companies and start-ups. In many cases, the strong bonds she formed with both agency partners and clients have continued for a decade.
Her initial clients included numerous global software and technology manufacturers, as well as a local program for the Bank of England, during an assignment in the U.K. Throughout this time, she managed pan-European PR and marketing communications programs.
In 1997, she joined Weber Shandwick (formerly The Weber Group) where she led the PR team for an $8 billion division of IBM. She was also as a senior communications counselor to other Weber accounts--Gateway and 3Com.
Kristine won The Weber Group’s first Asian client, the Republic of China’s trade development agency, CETRA. Within four months, Taiwan’s entrepreneurs and the country’s technology leadership made the cover of both Business Week and Forbes -- and built a strong global presence that continues today. Kristine also co-managed the opening of the company’s first Asian office in Taipei.
Finding the Right Voice
It was at The Weber Group that Kristine decided to specialize as an executive communications coach. Her work in the agency’s professional development and mentor programs helped her realize that throughout her career, she had always gravitated towards coaching others and loved it.
Through Loma Communications, Kristine answers the market imperative for executive communications coaching and focuses on what she has enjoyed most throughout her life’s work.
“Helping my clients gain new insights into their own behavior has been my most profound experience,” she says. “What inspires me the most is seeing people relinquish beliefs that keep them from becoming powerful speakers -- and then watching them discover the strength and integrity of their own voice.” |
